AviationWx (Side Project)
I have a love for aviation, weather, and computing. So, I decided to leverage all three of my interests and blend them together to create a tiny side project called AviationWx, short for Aviation Weather.
The purpose of this website aims to bring a myriad of meteorological data that was specially crafted for aviation to pilots of all ranks, even down to the aviation enthusiast. The data that makes these plots comes from the North American Rapid Refresh Ensemble (NARR-E). Created by NCEP, the NARR-E contains a plethora of derived products, including en-route products, updated hourly. For a brief methodology on the meteorological aspects of the model, it is comprised of a time-lagged output of 6 Rapid Refresh (RAP) and 4 North American Model (NAM) runs.

For AviationWx, I produce the following products (52 in total):
– Light / Moderate / and Heavy Clear Air Turbulence (CAT)
Light. Moderate. and Heavy Clear Air Turbulence is forecasted for the following Flight Levels: FL180 / 210 / 240 / 270 / 300 / 330 / 360 / 390 / 420
Icing is forecasted for the following Flight Levels: / Surface / FL030 / 060 / 090 / 120 / 150 / 180 / 210
Visibility less than 0.25 / 0.5 / 1.00 / 2.00 / and 4.00 miles at the surface
